SYNERGY.

rESEARCH |PRODUCT DESIGN | GRAPHIC DESIGN

Face to face interaction is proven by studies to comfort us and provide us with some important sense of wellbeing. Social connection is undoubtedly important as it predicts health and longevity. People use social media primarily because they desire social connection, however, online connection does not sufficiently substitute for face-to-face connection in providing social support or enhancing social skills. Technology is disconnecting us from the world around us, leading to a sense of isolation in communities. (Waytz, Adam, and Kurt Gray, 2018)

Synergy is a spatial feature that uses technology as a tool to improve sociability in public spaces. The surface will act as a host to facilitate communication and interaction. The sensors and technology embedded into the material will allow the surface to respond to human behaviour. Synergy is a flexible system that can be applied to a variety of spaces and programmed to suit specific environments. It will be situated in public spaces and will offer a scope for new uses and new social habits. This is an opportunity to positively change the behaviour in different interior and exterior environments.

Rhino w/Grasshopper

learning process:

PROJECT 1: Arduino + Grasshopper

Understanding input-output actions using Rhino + Grasshopper extension, Arduino circuit principles and coding language.

PROJECT 2: Arduino + Product Prototyping

Used the Arduino kit to create a chair cushion that alerts the user to stay and rest from work after 1 hour of sitting. This reduces work fatigue and mental snkadbflksjbfla
